Construction and COVID-19

You probably already know this, but we are in the midst of a comprehensive remodel of our building. We’re adding exam rooms, expanding our space for surgery and laboratory work, creating an outdoor exam room, and generally updating our space. It's a really exciting project!

We’re hoping to be in our new space by early December.

When we’re done, it will mean a great experience with veterinary care for our patients and clients.

In the meantime, things can get a bit noisy.

We don’t like to startle our clients or our patients, so we wanted to let you know that it’s possible that the construction work will be louder on the day that your pet comes in for a visit. We are taking precautions to buffer our patients from noise and disruption while you are here with us, but we understand that some patients can be more stressed from these things than others.

If you are concerned about the effect of the construction on your pet’s experience with us, please get in touch and we’ll make sure to address your concerns. In some situations, it may be necessary to reschedule an appointment, but we can walk you through options before getting to that decision.

The Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic ‘Rona policy… Version 5.0

On Friday, May 14th, the CDC declared that for all vaccinated citizens it was safe to go back in the pool -indoors, outdoors: no masks. We could resume activities as normal.

In hearing that edict, management at LMVC opted to stay the course, keep the masks, and see how things turn out.

On Tuesday, June 1st, at midnight, all ‘Rona restrictions in the state of Wisconsin will expire. Now what do we do?

First of all, we wear masks for one more day. To quit now would be akin to bailing out of a race when you can see the finish line.

Starting Wednesday, June 2, 2021 clients and staff will no longer be asked to wear masks.

If clients are more comfortable wearing masks, and would like us to, we will happily, and respectfully, comply.

If you are achy, shaky, coughing, or febrile, please call to reschedule or rearrange your appointment. If your pet is critically ill, we will make safe arrangements.

For appointments, we are still inviting one person to come into the clinic with your pet. Please continue to call on arrival – we are limiting traffic in the building, especially the lobby. For now, your car is the lobby.

For pickups, we are still doing Carhop service, so please call on arrival so that we can bring items out to you.

Curbside care for pets is still an option, upon request.

It’s been said, “Those who ignore the past, are doomed to repeat it.” 

We sometimes become so consumed with now, we fail to appreciate where we’ve been. We are in a much better place than one year ago… let’s do all what we can to keep ‘er goin’.

Updated ‘Rona policies and procedures for the Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic

Humanitarian, radio personality, and retired WWE Champion Hillbilly Jim recently commented on the state of The ‘Rona, “Friends and fans, we’ve hunkered down for over a year, this is no time to get careless.”

In lock-step with the former wrestler and with deference to Dr. Fauci, the CDC, and our front-end manager Danielle, it’s time to rethink our flow at the Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic.

But first, a note of gratitude. We thank our clients for their understanding and flexibility as we tried to keep friends and staff safe, while practicing curbside veterinary care for the last year. Sheila and I had to leave our little Token at Edinger Surgical Options for her ACL repair last March. It was a valuable experience in understanding how hard it is to hand your kids over for veterinary care. (I had a rescue dose of ‘sedative’ on hand for my wife that I did not have to use; thankfully, the receiving technician was a classmate and friend.)

So, starting as soon as this posting passes the gatekeepers at Facebook, we’d like to invite folks back into the exam room with your pets. Please call when you arrive. We’ll still be coming to the parking lot to escort you into the clinic like ushers at The Stoughton Opera House, in order to avoid congestion around the porch and lobby. We’d also ask only one family member or designate per pet in the exam room.

If you have young children that you fear would drive the minivan to Culver's, health concerns, mobility issues, or would rather nap and listen to an audiobook, you can still request curbside care.

Car Hop Service is still in effect. If you are picking up food, product, or prescriptions, or dropping off poop, pee, or other bodily fluids for diagnostics… call from the parking lot and we’ll come to you. Don’t expect Mittsy on roller skates this time. With the new concrete she couldn’t get stopped until Moe’s Bar on the corner, and never came back.

I had the honor of knowing Dr. Hendrick Barner. He was the father of cardiac bypass surgery, and in introductions he’d extend his steady hand, “Just call me Rick.” Sitting on a stump marveling at water cascading out of the desert at Calf Creek Falls in southern Utah, I marveled at his humility.

“Well, Bill, without my patients, I would be nobody.”
